On the 30th of October 2018, Care Visions Fostering hosted their 5th Annual Foster Carers Conference at Airth Castle.

In the run-up to the event, you may have noticed our social media campaign ‘Care to Dream’ across our social channels. This was a chance to highlight the amazing successes, both big and small, for our young people and carers. Time and time again, our young people defy the odds with the help of their carers and reach new heights each year!

The day began by the carers and staff hearing from Cathy Jamieson, Children’s Services CEO, about some exciting developments within the Fostering service, along with what was to come! Shortly after this Amy Davidson from the Fostering Network's Young Champions took to the stage to discuss her life as a care experienced young person alongside her recent work with The Fostering Network. Amy gave our foster carers a powerful message about the difference they can make to children on a day by day basis. “It's even the smallest of things, like helping around the house and letting me choose my own shampoo that helps build up the trust”.

Alongside the main speakers of the day, there were two workshops taking place; 'Building Effective Partnerships with Schools 'run by Elaine McIntosh Senior Manager (Education Services and Professional Training), and 'Our Story' with Gillian Smith which highlighted her family's experiences of fostering and adoption.

In Gillian's words- "Our Story is the story of hope when I wouldn't let go: it's of love that never gave up.  Our Story came about through our families experience. For many our story is unbelievable, unimaginable, our goal is to find a way to provide support for families and young people who have had similar experiences and help them find a better way."

Feedback was extremely strong from both workshops.

One of the highlights of the day was reliving some of our young people's stage debut in Roger Water's 'The Wall' concert at the SSE Hydro on 30th June. It was such an incredible achievement and a testament to their courage to stand up in front of an audience of thousands and sing along to a Pink Floyd track

Overall, the day was a huge success. We’d like to say a special thank you to all those involved in running the conference, as well as our incredible Foster Carers. We really couldn’t do it without you!

Look out for next year's exciting event planned for September 2019 with more news to follow soon…
