Home of The Fringe, Greyfriars Bobby and the birthplace of Harry Potter – the City of Edinburgh has a lot to offer. But could Edinburghers offer young people their support by becoming foster carers? We’re looking for foster families in Edinburgh to look after the city’s children and young people.

Fostering in Edinburgh with Care Visions Fostering Scotland

As a Scottish-owned fostering service, we’re proud to support foster carers of the city of Edinburgh. Our children and young people range in age from 0-18. Sometimes our children and young people need to live with a foster family for a few weeks or sometimes they need long term support.

Children are referred to us from your local authority, and we strive to ensure the very best matching of foster carers for the young people in our care.

Some of our Foster Carers offer short or medium-term placements, looking after a number of children over time, while others offer long term placements. Whether short or long term, we regularly get feedback from Foster Carers that fostering is among the most rewarding and fulfilling things they have ever done in their lives.

Support and training available in Edinburgh

Foster carers in Edinburgh can benefit from 24/7 support, excellent training and the knowledge that we’ll be there for you so that you can help shape the lives of children in your area. Care Visions Fostering Scotland are proud to have established network of foster families in Renfewshire who regularly meet for support groups in your area.

Our supervising social workers and therapeutic family workers have a wealth of knowledge and experience, with many of them working with children and young people for over twenty years. We’re proud to have great links across Scotland for foster carers to check in with other foster carers in our organisation and learn from each other.

Who can foster in Edinburgh?

Every fostering family is different, but what they all have in common is a shared goal of changing a young life and providing a stable and loving environment for young people to thrive in. All applications in Edinburgh are considered, regardless of age, gender, martial status, religious persuasion, sexual identity or nationality.

No formal qualifications are required to become a foster carer, instead we’ll give you the tools and training (link) to build on your own life experience to provide the very best care for our young people.

Consider short & long term fostering options

As the cost of living increases and life may have changed post Covid, we understand that there is more to think about when fostering than ever before. Short term fostering can be a way in to try out fostering and see if it is for you, and if you want you could consider long term fostering however if you just want to stay with short term this is not a problem.
